Sometimes we understand something intellectually long before it feels resolved emotionally. You may know you are safe now or that an experience was not your fault, while your body or emotions continue reacting as though the past is still present.

This is part of why I incorporate Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) and Brainspotting (BSP). These approaches may help us to work with emotions, beliefs, sensations, memories, and nervous-system responses in addition to the story you can tell.

Working Beyond Words

The Goal is not to erase what happened. The goal is to help what happened stop feeling so present

EMDR is a structured psychotherapy approach used to address distressing experiences and associated thoughts, emotions, and beliefs. Depending on your needs, treatments may include identifying past experiences, current triggers, negative and adaptive beliefs, body sensations, and future concerns.

During portions of EMDR, bilateral stimulation may be used through eye movements or another clinically appropriate method. You remain awake, aware, and able to communicate throughout the process.

What is EMDR?

Brainspotting is a brain-body therapy that uses specific points in your visual field to access where emotional experiences and trauma may be held in the nervous system, supporting deeper processing and healing beyond what words alone can reach
